Mecha dog

I created this artwork to participate in CGBoost challenge called "Robot pet challenge". I started by gathering some references and planning the scene. I decided to focus in on the story elements and the overall presentation/readability that I felt I was lacking.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the polish that I was able to demonstrate in this render and will also consider kit-bashing as viable technique from now on

I started with the background which ended being a small mistake since some of the elements didn’t make it into the final scene and I ended wasting some time.

With that done I created a crude outline of the dog and started to make the yellow plates that you see in the final render. Then I created the pipes and started to fill in the interior wit kit-bashing, that ended up being quite fun and quick.

When I was nearly finished, I noticed that all the colours were to saturated and the dog didn’t stand out from the scene. So, I rendered them separately and used the dog only picture for masking when I desaturated the background.
